I booked and paid for a cruise on Princess Cruise Lines through Costco Travel and because I'm single, I had to pay what equals a double occupancy. That's not the worst part!

I booked my trip several weeks in advance and a couple of weeks before my departure, noticed the fares, for the identical room, had drop significantly. I contacted Costco Travel and after waiting several minutes on hold, spoke with a less than helpful representative and then to the most rude and condescending supervisor, that would only identify himself as William. At that point, I was told they could not adjust my booking and to cancel, I would have to forfeit half the fare. I contacted Princess Cruise Lines directly and spoke with their representative that explained that the lower fare advertised, at the Princess website was for first time passenger only (Known as Flash Fare).

Re-booking for my room would be at the same fare and the only option that might be available would be ship-board credit, but that would need to be done by Costco. The Princess representative did state that this may be difficult as Costco would have to reduce their commission. The princess representative then advised me to re-contact Costco Travel. After re-contacting Costco Travel and waiting on hold for even longer this time, was told that they could not issue any credits what-so-ever!

I have come to understand, that if had had booked directly with Princess, I could have, at least been afforded the ship-board credit. After nine cruises with Princess Cruise Lines, this will be my last and advise anyone reading this to choose another cruise lines, I hear Disney is pretty good.

But remember, book direct!!!!!

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

You get what you pay for in this world. Try to save a dollar and run into a problem........you are on your own. Suggest using a travel agency next time for service in case of a problem.

Someone that has cruised as much as you claim to should know that you are charged the full cost of the room (or double fare) when you travel by your self. You should also have realized that you can not change to a lower rate after you make final payment don't you?

You should also know that all cruise lines do everything that you are complaining about; so if you go to Disney, Holland, Viking, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, etc. or any hotel, they all do it. You blaming the travel agent who is adhering to the cruise line's terms and conditions, and probably told you that you could not reduce the price after final payment, or blaming the cruise line because you could not take advantage of a sale seems unreasonable.

Perhaps you should pay more attention to the fine print or shop around before you make your final purchasing decision, just know that the price will probably change to a lower rate sometime before you sail. Also, take someone with you that may also help the sticker shock.
