Costco cancelled my December vacation for St. Martin due to the extensive damage to the resort.

They charged me a $400 cancellation penalty and said it was an airline fee. I told them I booked my package with Costco not American Airlines and they should not partner with a company that would gauge their client this way.

My friend booked the same vacation through Apple and was on the same flight. Apple refunded everything.

If you did not read the terms of your contract prior to handing over money, then you should read them now:

VACATION PACKAGE CANCELLATIONS – Cancellation of your vacation package will result in supplier fees, if applicable. Cancellation of the flight(s) portion of your vacation package may be nonrefundable and nontransferable.

In some cases, the value on the cancelled airline tickets may be used to rebook future air travel at a later date. Airline fees will apply on a rebooked ticket. The rebooked ticket must be on the same airline and travel must be completed within one year of the date that the original ticket was issued. Other restrictions may apply.

Changes to the flight schedule may be allowed, subject to change fees and additional fare collection, as dictated by the airline.

Some ticket rules do not allow changes. You may be required to cancel your existing airline reservation and rebook a new reservation at applicable fares.
